“MUSIC ANIMATION” CGI 3D Animated Short by Frequency

A frequency analysis of each instrument over time shows musical pitches, volume contours, even the harmonics of the instruments. This video is of the music from Erik Satie’s Gymnopedie #1. Separate parts are colored differently. The Oboe melody is orange. The Keyboard accompaniment is blue gray. At the end a synthesizer joins to form the reddish clouds. Only the moving 3D shapes are made from the music. The ground represents silence. A line of yellow light marks where the music is currently playing.

This is our first animation of music by frequency. It has screened in three film festivals and been chosen as a Semi-Finalist in two. Many more videos will follow using a variety of musical styles and approaches.
